PARTNERSHIP WITH FOOTBALL FEDERATION AUSTRALIA

Football Federation Australia (FFA) is the governing body of football in Australia and a member of Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the international governing body for football. FIFA is made up of the FFA and 207 other national associations and also recognises six confederations loosely grouped along continental lines. Each national association is also a member of a confederation.

FFA was established in 2004. In 2005, FFA established Australia’s first ever fully professional national football league – the Hyundai A-League. Today, the Hyundai A-League consists of ten clubs. Just three years later in 2008 FFA introduced the Westfield W-League. Today there are eight teams that are affiliated with Hyundai A-League clubs and one standalone club from Canberra. FFA’s long-term vision is for football to be the largest and most popular sport in Australia.

UBIMET’s global leading meteorology services have enabled Football Federation Australia to enhance its weather monitoring procedures by obtaining detailed weather forecasts up to eight days in advance of Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League matches.

“The UBIMET Weather Cockpit provides us early notification on whether severe adverse weather events may occur which could impact our fixture schedule. In particular, it assists to monitor weather conditions during the peak summer months as FFA utilise these services in conjunction with the FFA Heat Policy in order to safeguard the welfare of players and match officials.” says Greg O’Rourke, Head of Hyundai A-League & Westfield W-League.

“Access to UBIMET’s experienced, knowledgeable and service focussed meteorologists adds tremendous value to the overall package and ensures we are receiving advice from qualified experts in their field. Most importantly, through UBIMET’s services we are able to make appropriate decisions and provide advanced notification to key stakeholders where necessary with full confidence that the information provided is both accurate and reliable. Without UBIMET’s services, our weather monitoring procedures would be significantly less efficient. We look forward to continuing our partnership with UBIMET to enhance our policies through research initiatives as well as developing the further improvement to our procedural efficiencies in this area.”
